Chez Group Workshop

Dear Agents,

It was recently reported that the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, which is the arm of the state's department of economic development whose goal it is to cultivate and promote film work, estimates that the economic impact of film and television production in Georgia has increased fivefold from $241 million in 2007 to $1.3 billion in 2010...and it keeps getting stronger.

A recent newspaper cover flashed the title, Tinseltown Taps Atlanta as Movie-Making Mecca! The inside article boasted that Peachtree Street has become a red carpet, as so many big names in showbiz continue to pour into our city for work...very exciting...!

Never has there been a better time to get involved in some aspect of this industry in the state of Georgia.

The Chez Group would like to remind you that Shannon Eubanks' on camera technique workshop is less than two weeks away...the weekend of December 4th and 5th. There will be a morning session from 9 AM to 1 PM Saturday and Sunday, and an afternoon session from 2 PM to 6 PM Saturday and Sunday. For more details and to register for the workshop, please encourage your talent to visit the training page of our website at http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html . There is still some space available for both sessions.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or have any feedback to offer. We will be scheduling and posting our January and February workshops soon, and we welcome any thoughts or suggestions you may have to offer...don't hold back...!

Best wishes to everyone for a happy Thanksgiving. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann

Short Film- Submit yourself!

Project: Reveal

Production Company: Summerset Productions

Category: Short Film

Casting Director(s): Charisma Studios

Union: Non Union

Production Description: Summerset Productions is doing a series of short, narrative-style religious teaching videos for a Christian non-profit. This one is of a character talking about how she sometimes feels as if God doesn't give her the answers she wants to questions she has, or that God sometimes feels far away. She then recalls memories from her childhood when her father used to travel frequently for businesses. We see the younger version of her and her sister as they miss their traveling father. But then they find a series of little gifts hidden along with clues that he's left behind for them to find and they go on a scavenger hunt to find them. The narrator uses these stories to talk about how God might allow himself to feel far off at times so that we will search for him and find him, like a cosmic game of hide and seek.

Usage: Still deciding on distribution, but it would likely be online, via dvd, or some combination, and likely along with some kind of ancillary "teaching" materials like a Bible study curriculum.

Chez Group Workshop

Hello Agents,

Chez Studios is excited to announce two new workshops that have just been added to our schedule! We appreciate your ongoing support in helping us to get the word out about our workshop program...we hope to see some of your talent soon!

A description of each workshop follows:

The first workshop, scheduled for Saturday, November 13th, teams Shay Griffin and Ric Reitz together for a not to be missed educational seminar targeted for the serious beginning adult actor (ages 16 and older).

Shay will host the morning session, entitled, "Get the Job! The Business of Show Business," and will walk the actor through the basic requirements of marketing yourself as a professional actor. Her lecture will be followed by Ric's afternoon session, entitled, "You Got the Job...Now Don't Get Fired!" which will include discussions about on the set etiquette and sound stage techniques. After spending the day with Shay and Ric, you will be prepared to jumpstart your professional acting career.

The second workshop, scheduled for the weekend of December 4th and 5th, will be taught by Shannon Eubanks, who is joining us again to teach the serious actor her successful On Camera Technique acting workshop for adults (ages 16 and older).

The casting industry is feeling the effects of changes in technology just like everyone else, as evidenced by the way in which actors are now auditioning. It is becoming more and more common for actors to be asked to put themselves on tape for an audition without the leadership of a casting director in the room. Shay stresses the importance of learning the effective tools to successfully audition on camera through this intensive workshop weekend with Shannon Eubanks.

Our children's and teen's acting workshop with Matt Fletcher, which is scheduled for the weekend of November 13th and 14th, has several places still available. Shay just met with Matt in L.A. this past weekend, and he is very excited to be returning to Atlanta soon...don't miss out on this great opportunity to work with a top talent agent from Los Angeles in less than two weeks!

For complete details on all of these exciting happenings, please visit the training page of our website at http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html .

Please feel free to contact Mary Ann at chezmaryann@aol.com if you have any questions or need further information.

Due to the upcoming holidays, these workshops will be the last that Chez Studios will offer until we ring in the new year...and what an exciting new year we are anticipating...for everyone in this industry!

Sincerely,
Mary Ann

Workshop

Crystal Carson - Los Angeles acting coach - www.crystalcarson.com
FILM/TELEVISION AUDITION TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP - $75
Thursday, November 18, 2010 / 5pm-8pm
"How do I book the roles that keep going to the Los Angeles actors?!"

Ever said, "I am just as good as the LA talent that is coming here and booking the local roles!"? The truth is, if you want to compete with Hollywood, you've got to know their rules. The way you prepare for, and then "perform" your auditions, may actually be causing you to look "green" in the eyes of the LA directors/producers who view your tapes....even if your agent or acting teacher has been giving you high marks and praise! Crystal will discuss thoroughly the proper way to break down a script and approach an audition, the truth about memorizing lines/holding the script, when/how to use props or pantomime, where to look for your eye-line, how to find your character's objective, etc. And all based on what is currently the trend in Hollywood.

This course is for every actor who is pursuing Film/TV work. Actors who are just starting and actors who book Film/TV on a regular basis will improve their booking rates. In LA, Crystal teaches actors weekly who are booking lead and supporting roles and has her finger on the pulse of what producers/casting directors want to see, how they perceive "local" talent when they shoot in our state, what is now perceived as "good" acting given the prevalence of reality shows, etc. Even local Atlanta acting teachers will find lots of new, helpful information by sitting in on this workshop. Agents and casting directors are very much welcomed, too!

This short class will help all actors come across as professionally as the LA actors with whom they are being compared. So many projects are coming to Georgia...it's time we all bring our A-GAME to the audition room!

To register: contact campbal@charter.net for mailing address or PayPal option.

Weekend Workshop

Director Joins Producer for Weekend Workshop!
Saturday, October 2nd & Sunday, October 3rd
9am-7pm
Ages 10-adult

Atlanta Director Byron Erwin will join forces with Producer Jeremiah Bennett to conduct the Weekend with TV/Film Producer workshop.
This is an amazing opportunity for Atlanta actors who want to increase their networking opportunities by working with this fabulous duo for the weekend!
Erwin and Bennett, who are currently in the process of casting the feature film Tiger Lilly, which starts shooting in mid October, will bring real hands on experience to students in this class.
The Producer/Director Combo will put the students through the paces of making a short film or scene. Students will get to shoot the footage throughout the weekend and receive the unedited footage at the end of the weekend.

"The fact that students get to spend a whole weekend working with an actual movie producer and movie director is invaluable," says Actor's Scene Owner Nicolle Campbell.
"These are people who make a movie a year plus other projects. They will get to see the student's talent and develop a relationship with them. This is how the successful actors make opportunities for themselves. If the producer/director likes the student from the workshop, who do you think they will think of when they are casting their next project?"
Campbell also adds, "To top it off, students get to see how the mind of a director and producer works which could help them on future auditions."
The workshop will cover:
Acting on Camera
How to make the camera your best friend
Things that will make you look great to the director
Professional Auditions: Everything you need to know to get the part
Best way to send headshots/resumes
Audition techniques that will help you get noticed by the director
Script writing basics: How to take an idea and turn into script
During the workshop, students will be divided into groups of 3-4 and work on their own story, storyboard, shot list and will direct and film other's shorts while starring in their own. If screen writing is not your talent/interest, no worries, we will provide the scenes for you to work on during the workshop!
Students will receive unedited footage at the end of the weekend so they can create actor's reel or edit into their own short film.

It's a great way to get exposure and develop a relationship with an actual director, while gaining filming experience and learning more about acting on-camera and film-making.

This is a one weekend event, so don't miss this opportunity!!
Student Pricing: Non-Student Pricing:
$150 $175

Know Your Type

Know Your Type and Increase Your Bookings workshop

Date: Sunday, August 22

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Where: Creative Studios of Atlanta

500 Bishop St, Suite F-8

Atlanta, GA 30318

404-355-4588

Cost: $45

Want to increase your booking percentage? It starts with knowing who you are and how others see you. When you walk into the room for an audition, what is the casting director’s first impression?

When you’re selling a product (YOU), you have to know exactly what it is that you’re trying to sell. If you don’t know who you are and most importantly, how others see you, you won’t be able to sell it. And if you can’t sell it, they won’t buy it.

Even worse, if you continually go up for the roles you are not right for and don’t book them, you create the impression that you can’t book.

In this workshop, you will discover how others perceive you. Through an extensive exercise you will find out what types of roles you can convincingly play, what others think of your appearance, and what vibes you give off when you enter a room.

You will also find out whether or not your current headshot is effective. Your headshot may get you in the room, but if it doesn’t properly sell you as the product, then it isn’t effective in getting you the role.

After the exercise, you will use the information given to you about you (by the other students) to create what we call your own personal logline: a two-three sentence description that accurately and creatively conveys who you are as a person, and therefore who you are as an actor. When you leave this workshop, you will know what your easy sell is and how to sell it to casting directors, agents, and others.

About the teacher: Jessica Leigh Smith is an actor in Atlanta, with J Pervis Talent. She got her first television break with a role in 2009 on One Tree Hill, playing a character perfectly suited for her type. Very shortly after, she portrayed Lydia in the beautiful short The Mailbox, a different character, but again perfectly suited for her type. Currently, Jessica is working on a web series, again in a role perfectly suited for her type. While she knows she will play different characters as an actor, Jessica likes to focus on those that she is most suited to play.

Independent Film Opportunity

I am working toward a BFA in Technical Theatre with my primary focus being in sound, video, and technical direction. This summer, I am shooting a short film entitled, "The Announcement" as an Advanced Production Project with the Gainesville Theatre Alliance. GTA is a collaborative alliance between Gainesville State College, Brenau University, community members, and theatrical professionals. "The Announcement" is a an original, comedic, character-driven screenplay that was written as part of a different class.

Synopsis
Virgil, a widower in his 50s, calls his family to a mysterious family meeting. Through a series of events, his youngest son Vic concludes that his father is dying and his middle child Vince decides that their father is going to announce that he is gay. Virgil's oldest child Veronica, who was adopted, helped raise her brothers after their mother died giving birth to Vic. Veronica has her own thoughts on what the announcement will be and has fun feeding her brothers' suspicions. Christine, Veronica's best friend from college, is secretly engaged to Virgil.

The dates for the production are as follows:

Auditions will be held on the evening of Tuesday, July 27th in the Banks Recital Hall at Brenau University. You will need to prepare a one minute, contemporary, preferably comedic monologue. Auditions will be scheduled every five minutes from 4:00PM until 6:30PM. Please contact me via e-mail with your top three audition times to schedule an appointment. goldenspurfilms@gmail.com
Callbacks will follow the same evening (Tuesday, July 27th) from 7PM to 10PM, still at Banks, and will consist of cold readings from the script.

There will be a full cast rehearsal on Wednesday, July 28th from 6PM until 10PM. This will also be at the Banks Recital Hall at Brenau.

The video will be shot on location in Greensboro, Georgia on Sunday, August 1st (10AM to 10PM), Monday, August 2nd (9AM to 9PM) and Tuesday, August 3rd (9AM to 9PM). Twelve hour calls are typical in the film and video world.

We need the following characters:
Vince - 22 year old, straight, white, male. Vic and Veronica's brother. A witty, cerebral, recent college graduate. Type B personality with expensive taste.

Vic - 19 year old, gay, white, male. Vince and Veronica's brother. A very social, happy, fit, sensitive, type A personality. Vic is comfortable with and sure of himself.

Veronica - 26 year old female - Any ethnicity - Vince and Vic's older (adopted) sister. Intelligent, caring, established, modern woman. Helped raise her younger brothers.

Christine - 26 year old female - Any ethnicity - Affectionate, attractive, likable, mature, down to earth, girl next door-type. Sometimes speaks before thinking. Veronica's best friend. Secretly in a relationship with Veronica's father. There will be no nudity, but adult situations will be inferred.
The part of Virgil is already cast.

All characters should speak with a neutral, American dialect.

I can offer each actor $50/day to help defray transportation costs. Meals will be provided during the shoot. A copy of the finished product and screen credit will also be given. Anyone interested should contact me at GoldenSpurFilms@gmail.com to schedule an audition. Please have them bring two copies of their headshot/resume.

Please let me know if there is any other information you need. Thank you again.

48 Hour Film Project:

Good morning everyone!
Just hoping you might pass this along to your talent.

I have been contacted by one of the teams in the upcoming 48hr film project to help with casting.
If anyone is unfamiliar with the 48hr film project, here's a link to their website.
http://www.48hourfilm.com/
The 48 hour film fest is coming to Atlanta the weekend of June 18 - 20. The 48 hour festival is a contest where teams compete by making a 6 minute movie in 48 hours.
It is crazy and fast paced and teams must be available at a moment's notice all hours of the day and night during the weekend.
According to the rules of the contest, teams are not allowed to pay anyone, but the contest provides great exposure for actors in that every film will be shown on the big screen at the Fox Theater the following week. SAG actors are welcome.

This is a team of aspiring young film makers. They were on the team New Lexicon last year which won the award for "Best Use of Character".

Anyone looking to be part of a team, please shoot me an email with your 800casting link and contact (cell and email) and I'll see if we can make it happen!
Thanks!
