Agency Holiday Schedule

Many of you have asked what our schedule will be like for the holiday season SO here is our schedule....

We will maintain our normal hours through Friday December 18th.

The week of Christmas and the week of New Years (12/21-1/1) we will be in and out of the office as needed, therefore there will NOT be someone at the agency during normal office hours. We will be checking our emails daily and any emergency phone calls can be made to our cell phones.

We will resume our normal office hours on Monday January 4, 2010.

Giving Back UPDATE

Just wanted to let you know, we are accepting more wrapping paper and board games through Friday of this week 12-11-09. Please feel free to come by and drop off your donations!

Giving Back: Two Williams Homes

The Two Williams Build is now up on our online registration system. Please ask your group members to use it to sign up for the build. The process is short and sweet. Four easy steps are provided below.

1) Visit our volunteer registration website at www.atlantahabitat.volunteerhub.com .

2) For volunteers who have not used this website before: Click Register and then select a user name and password, enter the join code 2Williams (this join code is important because it enables your group members to view the sign up information specific to your build) and input contact information. NOTE: At this point volunteers have not signed up for your build yet. They have only created an account.

For people who volunteered on this build last year: Enter your user name and password and then click Sign In.

3) Click the Sign Up button under Upcoming Events to sign up for the Two Williams Build day(s) of interest

4) Click Sign Out

After volunteers sign up they will receive a confirmation email with links for Atlanta Habitat background information, Rules to Build By, Release & Waiver, and map & directions to the build site. As the group coordinator, you will have administrative access to the site so you can see a list of all the volunteers who have signed up for your volunteer days and easily communicate with them (either individually or as a group) via email. The attached document provides simple instructions for how that works.

Agency Update!

In preparation for another great year we have scheduled the mandatory evaluation. The evaluation will give us a chance to get re-acquainted, see who has improved on their acting skills, and who needs to update photos.

Note: If I do not hear from you about the evaluation I will assume that you have made the decision to take a break from the business or have chosen a different path. You will then be categorized as inactive.

To adequately evaluate your skills and marketing material bring your headshot with resume attached and/or composite card. Non-readers should prepare a mini-commercial (10 – 30 seconds). All others should prepare either a 30 – 60 second commercial OR a 60 second monologue.

Please treat this as an actual audition and be 100 % prepared! I have attached a self-evaluation form. Please complete and bring it to the evaluation. If you would like feedback please have a self-addressed stamped envelope for a copy of the form to be sent back to you.

To renew your individual page on the J Pervis Talent website a renewal fee of $55 must be received in our office no later than January 1st. This fee covers unlimited headshot, resume, and demo updates for 2010. Send all updates for the resumes to info@jpervistalent.com. To update the headshots send a CD to the office in jpg format. There will be a 15 day grace period for all payments not received by January 1st. The late fee after January 1st is $20 (total $75), due by January 31st. If we do not receive payment for renewal you will be automatically deleted from the website. Therefore if payment is received after 1/15 you will be considered new talent on the website again, and in order to reactivate your status the fee will be $85.00 with a renewal due every January.

Send an updated resume with a CD of your jpg headshots to J Pervis Talent Agency along with your initial set-up fee of $85.00. Note: There will be an annual renewal fee due each January. December Chez Group Workshop

Year End Celebration with Shay Bentley-Griffin on December 6th! Class time is 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM


With more work in film and television coming to Georgia in 2010, the Chez Studio will be having their final workshop of 2009. Our next Actor's Workshop will take place on Sunday December 6th.
Actors will learn about the audition process from Casting Director/Film Producer Shay Bentley-Griffin. This will be a class that will challenge those who have been working.
Working actors that have trained with the Chez Studio include: Garland Hunt, Jr , Justin Miles, L Warren Young, Allanah Parmer, Katherine Shepler, Susan Griffiths, Greg Kamp and Chandler Massey. As well as Dakota Fanning!
Our goal is to assist actors by creating a professional work place for talent while incorporating a fun and informative curriculum.

But soon, the events that took place that one fateful night bring back with it ghosts from the past. * *

Chez Workshop- Rob Hardy

Director/Producer Rob Hardy joins Chez Studio on November 21st. Returning to work with Shay Griffin and Atlanta actors, Rob Hardy will be filming Stomp the Yard II in Atlanta in November. He will work with actors from his perspective as a director who works in Atlanta and Los Angeles. He and partner Will Parker produce under their banner Rainforest Films. Please see attached resume.

Michael Cole- New Talent Workshop

This is a by-invitation audition workshop for actors with agents. Up to 14 spaces are available
for each of the 2 sessions for this 2 day workshop. Michael and Vince have adapted Meisner’s
method of “being in the moment” to a unique and personal approach to auditioning that has been
found to be highly successful. This intimate workshop will be an aggressive 2 days of intensive
individual auditioning analysis for script preparation and on-camera coaching.

We will cover the basics of the TV & Film industry/business from all levels. What happens
after you book the gig? What to expect, set etiquette, paper work, SAG vs. AFTRA, taxes, etc.

being sent thru them, in house on-camera audition protocol, what to expect, timely response to

This is a great tool for all ages to use so that clients can get a feel for you as a person prior to bringing you in for an audition. I know many of you talent have a profile on Actor's Access, which is a service of Breakdown Services. I've been asked to help get the word out to produce a "general interview" of you on Actor Slate. This is the first look casting directors often have of you.

Actor Slate is coming to Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta and Nashville to shoot in October. Here are the dates:

Most actors are purchasing one or both of these for use on their own websites, for direct submission purposes and for uploading to popular video sites like Youtube and Facebook and lots of others.

- Chelsea Studios, is the exclusive producers of Actor Slate for Breakdown Services. There may be other people around offering to shoot an "Actor Slate" (they happen to own the trademark to the name) or some similarly named product. Chez Group Workshop- UPDATE

Audition Workshop with Steve Coulter



Actors will be taken through the entire audition process, from when the actor first gets the script, through the first reading, to the callback. They’ll learn how to prepare for the audition, what to do once they walk into the room or are put on tape, how to work with nervousness, and most of all, how to actually enjoy the process. The actors’ simulated auditions will be on camera.



Steve Coulter bio:

Steve Coulter is an Atlanta-based actor, director and writer. A professional actor for 25 years, his film and television work includes Prison Break, Army Wives, Mr. Brooks, Madea’s Family Reunion, HBO’s Warm Springs, and a starring role in the upcoming The People v. Leo Frank on PBS, opposite Seth Gilliam of The Wire. Steve wrote and directed the award-winning film, The Etiquette Man, selected by the Sundance Channel and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. He is currently the head writer and executive story editor for Tyler Perry’s television series, House of Payne, on TBS, and where he was also the head writer for Meet the Browns.

Shay Bentley-Griffin will be having a sessions called "Actor Talk" on Wednesday October 28th at 6:00 PM. Shay enjoys spending time with the actors who participate in our workshops. When Steve Coulter workshop dates changed it conflicted with Shay's schedule, we decided to do the Wednesday October 28th event for those of you who can attend. This will give Shay the opportunity to spend quality time with all of you.

This Intensive course is designed for trained actors who have some audition experience.

As professional actors, we often audition and work on projects that don't necessarily challenge the full spectrum of our talents. You may be comfortable with industrials, commercials, and voice-over but fall apart when you audition for a film. With the increase of film and television in production in Georgia, now more than ever, Atlanta talent needs to be ready for Hollywood auditions.

In this Intermediate Intensive, actors work with film and television scripts, learning how to nail the audition in a limited amount of time. The focus is on the nuts and bolts of breaking down a scene, including relationship, intention, history, opening and closing beats, core and masking. Using the skills you learn will greatly improve your audition skills. This valuable cold-reading technique works.
atie Cofield wrote about the last Intermediate Intensive, which Della taught:

Of all the wonderful things I learned in this class, the most important, seemingly obvious, trick was. . . how to hold the page! It's such a wonderful image, thinking of bridging the gap between yourself and the other person in the conversation using the page!

I thoroughly enjoyed Della's comments on our work. So many teachers give you "That was nice" or "That could have been better". And that's not helpful. Della's specificity of critique is great and so constructive!

The creating of the relationship and remembering that it's the most important thing really works for me, and it was so much more fun to act when I was really connected to the other person in the scene. It made everything fall into place and forced me into just relating honestly at all moments. It made all of my creation of history actually mean something, and made my need in the scene even more important when I was fully locked in to the relationship.

I really liked it when the class doubled up and we had two classes a week. I felt like more was sinking in each class because we had the opportunity to practice with greater frequency in a shorter amount of time.

This class was SUCH a gift! I had several auditions during the weeks of class, and I could tell such a difference- my confidence that I really knew what to do had skyrocketed! For me, it was also such a relief to remember to trust myself and just play. Thank you!!!

Chez Studio is excited to announce our workshop with LA Casting Director Jason Wood & Writer/ Executive Producer Stan Zimmerman!

Wood, who was with us earlier this year, will partner with Zimmerman to create an exciting workshop using the experience acquired from both of their areas of expertise.
Wood recently worked along with Chez Casting on “My Super Psycho Sweet 16” which was shot in Atlanta. Jason began his work in Los Angeles at 20th Century Fox and oversaw shows such as: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files, The Practice, and The Simpsons. While at Mandalay Pictures Television Wood served as casting director for the tv series Young Americans which marked the television debut of future stars Kate Bosworth, Kate Moenning, Charlie Hunnam and Michelle Monaghan.
Zimmerman along with writing partner James Berg has created shows such as “Rita Rocks” and serves as executive producers on the same show. Zimmerman and Berg received two WGA nominations for best comedy writing on episodes from “The Golden Girls” and “Roseanne.”

"The Paint Shop"
A Children's Film Acting Program for ages 6 - 13 with Renée Ford Clark.

Renée Ford Clark joins the CSA Film Academy as an acting coach. Formerly a successful teacher of children with the Academy of Cinema and Television, Renee will teach commercial and film acting techniques to kids and tweens after school.

The Paint Shop program will run from September 7 to December 15. The program will bring out your child's special gifts for acting and prepare them for the business, all in a fun and nurturing environment. The program includes: - Commercial Acting, Audition techniques, Improvisation for Camera and Film.

Students will learn the basics of perfecting specific characters for commercials while establishing the foundation to build solid acting skills for film. They will learn how to slate, memorize quickly, master the cold read and get to the "next level" of commercial auditioning.

During The Paint Shop's Improv segment, students work on their listening and quick decision making skills and focus on being spontaneous, while "agreeing and proceeding" with others to make a scene work. The exercises presented help actors get to the truth of relationships in and easy and fun way whether working alone, with a partner or in a group.

The film segment trains young actors about the elements of filmmaking as well as how actors fit in the the filmmaking process. Actor's perform for the camera (which varies from stage performance), and students gain an understanding of how a film set operates.

CSA FIlm Academy Company Auditions

Creative Studios of Atlanta (CSA) is holding auditions Wednesday August 5th for the inaugural Kids & Teens Film Academy Company for 2009-2010 year. Kids aging in range from 6-18 are permitted to audition.

Creative Studios is seeking a select group of Atlanta's most talented and motivated kids to develop their film talents and skills while learning from a veteran of film and television. This highly selective and talented CSA Film Academy Company will be taught by Creative Studios founder Ken Feinberg.

It is Ken's intention to find talented kids and teens with personalities and skills he can develop. Ken is seeking 12 young actors to mentor as professionals. He is looking for a select group of young actors with both potential and desire to work in film/television.

Audition info:

Auditions will take place Wednesday August 5th from 10am to 4pm.
Additional audition date(s) may be added if necessary.

The company will start meeting weekly beginning in late August and continuing to May. The program will culminate in a short film production and premiere screening. Please bring two headshots and resumes. Actors should be prepared for a cold read.

Charisma Studios will be casting Cake Baby Production’s short independent film The Tedious Existence of Terrell B. Howell.

The film was written by screenwriters Kelly Young-Silverman and Michael Harper. It will be directed by Atlanta talent David Marshall Silverman and filmed by the experienced visionary, Tim Glover.

Acclaimed actor, Steve Coulter is set to star in the title role.
Auditions will be held July 25th from 9AM-10:15PM.

Filming will begin August 8th and take place over the span of 3-4 weekends in August. Specific dates will be finalized after casting. Child roles, other than Jacob and Mathew, will require a one day shoot. Roles will not be paid, but all actors will receive copy/credit/meals and will submit for credit on IMDb. Meisner for Film -- NEW CLASS STARTING SATURDAY JULY 11TH FROM 11-2!!

Sanford Meisner is one of America's Master Acting Teachers. Meisner created a series of exercises for actors that he refined for over 50 years at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. For Meisner, his approach was designed "to eliminate all intellectuality from the actor's instrument and to make him a spontaneous responder to where he is, what is happening to him and what is being done to him."

Meisner Training is an interdependent series of exercises that build upon one another. Meisner students work on a series of progressively complex exercises to develop "moment-to-moment" spontaneity, which allow actors to move beyond the printed script and address the underlying emotional and philosophical themes of the script.

Some people Meisner trained include: James Caan, Steve McQueen, Robert Duvall, Gregory Peck, Bob Fosse, Diane Keaton, Peter Falk, Jon Voight, Jeff Goldblum, Grace Kelly, James Doohan, Kim Basinger, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, James Gandolfini, David Mamet, Arthur Miller and Sydney Pollack.
