Experienced VO Talent Workshop
Posted on 11:15 AM by J Pervis Talent
Below is information on a workshop being offered in Atlanta for experienced VO actors. This is all the information we have on this workshop. All questions should be directed directly to Voice Acting Academy.
Two intensive days of voiceover coaching from
James Alburger & Penny Abshire
October 19-21, 2012
Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport North, Atlanta, GA
This event is NOT just for “beginners!”
We’ve had tons of requests to bring our
Voice Acting Performance Essentials event to Atlanta...
And because of you... we’re on our way!
Voice talent at all levels of experience will learn new ways to work with copy.
Plus one-on-one coaching from
James R. Alburger, author of “The Art of Voice Acting,”
and VoiceActing Academy Creative Director, Penny Abshire.
Attendance is strictly limited to 20 participants
and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
We expect this event to sell out quickly.
HERE’S JUST SOME OF WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
The 7 Core Elements of performance and how to apply them to ANY script!
Just what is IEEO and why it is important in every VO performance.
Why you cannot simply “read” a script
How to craft your auditions to put you ahead of the crowd.
Why you are not in the “voiceover” business.
How to create compelling, believable, real characters that tell stories.
Tons of performance “tricks” and “secret” techniques.
and much, much, more!
YOU’LL START WITH THREE WEBINARS TO GET YOU UP TO SPEED:
Immediately after registering for this event, you will be directed to a page where you can download your registration package and any pre-event handout materials.
You will also find a link to the first of three webinar playbacks that will cover all the lecture material for this event. In order for you to truly benefit from our on-mic coaching, we strongly urge you to watch the webinars and take notes. After each webinar, you will be given a short “test” on what you learned during the webinar. When you complete each “test” you will be given a link to the next webinar. After completing all three webinars, you will be on a web page that has all three webinar playbacks for you to watch whenever you choose. You can log in to your member account to access this page whenever you need a refresher.
We put the bulk of our lecture material into the webinar format so that we can focus our time during the workshop working with you on-mic. This also allows us to move more quickly during the workshop, so your time on-mic will truly be intensive and of maximum benefit. We’ll be referring back to the webinar content throughout the event, so if you have not watched the webinars, you may be left in the dust!
WEEKEND EVENT SCHEDULE (note - times may vary):
If you are traveling from out of town, please plan to arrive on Friday afternoon.
Here’s our planned schedule for the weekend:
Friday, Oct 19: 6:00pm - 9:00pm - This evening will be an opportunity for you to get to know your classmates and for us to review some of the webinar material and answer any questions you might have before we get down to business on Saturday morning.
Saturday, Oct 20: 9:00am - 5:00pm - We start promptly at 9am, so please arrive on time and ready to go. Depending on class size, we may go as late as 6pm.

48 hour Film Festival
Posted on 10:22 AM by J Pervis Talent
The Atlanta 48 hour film project takes place from the 15th to the 17th of June and we're planning on filming a night shoot the evening of the 15th / morning of the 16th. The concept for the film will be a summer camp adventure / 80's kid's movie homage ala Goonies, E.T., Monster Squad, etc. At this point it looks like we'll be filming about 40 mins. north of town, we'll know for sure in two days.
The way the project works is: Our production team arrives for the kick-off event on the 15th and we are assigned a genre, prop, character and line of dialogue. After that we'll spend the afternoon writing the screenplay and assembling the items we need. We'll film that evening then edit the film the next day and turn it in that night. The films will then be screened at the Plaza theater in Midtown on Sunday and the awards ceremony will take place that evening. The rules of the competition state that none of our cast or crew may be financially compensated for their participation, so everyone is volunteering for the film and equally invested in winning the competition.
The winner will go on to compete in the 2012 48 hour project with films from 96 cities around the world and the top ten films selected this year will be screened at The Cannes International Film Festival: Short Film Corner in 2013. We will also be free to enter our film into festival competitions following the Atlanta 48 hour project awards ceremony and each of the children and their parents will receive a copy of the final film.
If anyone has any further questions, they can feel free to email anytime. Thanks again!
Regards,
Brandon

All workshop audition scenes will be videotaped and available for you to view on our website (this service is free with website registration).
John’s revolutionary Active Listening Technique Exercises will help you activate your curiosity and use active listening to bring realism to your scene to help you stand out from the competition at an audition and improve auditioning and performing skills for the camera. The camera is a lie detector and sees when we are faking it instead of feeling it. And, whether our character is living in a broad, zany Disney-type comedy or on some subtle brushed, edgy, independent film, the camera demands truth in order for the audience to believe our circumstances. Of course, truth can be painted brightly (Disney and Nickelodeon) or delicately (one hour drama or film) depending on the genre for what we are auditioning, but the theory is the same. Learn how listening makes us better actors!
